Design Technology International worked closely with Heatrae Sadia's engineering
and marketing teams to define design strategies that would maximize return on
investment. The energy saving benefits of instant boiling water dispensers over
kettles are considerable. The time taken to prepare hot drinks is significantly
reduced and the water is kept at a constant temperature above 96°. Simplicity of use,
ease of cleaning and safety of operation were identified as key issues to be
addressed at the design stage.
Careful selection of casework materials allowed the internal boiling water chassis
assembly to be clad in stainless steel for the catering market and heat resistant
plastic for the commercial and domestic markets. A central escutcheon feature
containing all controls and indicators was used to create a common brand image
between all products in the range. The fascia was designed to allow the casework to
be removed without the need to drain the system - dramatically reducing downtime and
service call out costs.
Extensive use of CAD modelling and CAD data transfer allowed design
timescales to be minimised and a range of five products brought to market
as quickly as possible.
